In the last few weeks I’ve been to see two fabulous shows, both produced, in part, by Randy Klein, son of LI performers Cooky and Lenny Klein. Gentleman’s Guide…, as you know, won the TONY Award this year for Best Musical and speaks for itself. If you haven’t seen it, do. It’s a phenomenal show that combines elements of Gilbert & Sullivan, The Mystery of Irma Vep and the old Alec Guiness film, Kind Hearts and Coronets. I went with some girlfriends and can’t wait to see it again with John
. Disenchanted opens tonight, Dec 4. We saw a sold-out preview performance the day after Thanksgiving. The premise is the Disney princesses grown up and pissed off. The happily ever after thing just didn’t happen. This show follows in the tradition of other great female revues like Nunsense and Menopause the Musical. The talent on stage is incredible and every detail in the production (lights, sets, props and especially costumes) is top-notch. All your favorites are included: Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Mulan, Ariel, and many more. I can highly recommend this production without hesitation. It’s playing off-off B’way at St. Clement’s Theatre (I performed there 45 years ago – good heavens!) for a limited engagement at pre-Broadway prices and is looking for a larger venue for a longer run. See it now if you can – it’s a great idea for the holidays! ?
